I am delighted to share another beautiful submission to the Monk in the World guest post series from the community. Read on for Liz Coffman’s poems on being present.
The poems I offer are a reflection of my experience as a “Monk in the World” navigating the daily challenges of being present and being conscious of the holy charge I carry. It is humbling.
HOW IS IT
How is it
That I,
The selfish self
I so often carry
Around
In mindless chatter
Am the One
Who makes evident
The Holy Light
To unveil it’s glow
To be present
To the Cosmic Consciousness
In the grocery store
Next to you
CHANGED PLACES
Your God has changed places
You know
Tired of the Heavenly Hosts
Worn out by Magical tricks
You thought would keep you safe
Now it is
The very pulse of your heart
And heave of your breath
Tethered to the Cosmos
The invisible made visible
Along the holy way you’ve come
This new ancient vastness
This is the heart we hear
That pulses through
Our own veins.
It is sometimes unbearable
To believe
That we are One
In such a great expanse
Of love.
