Instead of selecting an image this month, we ask you to consider your Word for the Year as your poetry muse. We began this month with a Community Visio Divina practice with an image of a threshold and the theme of hospitality, asking what you will welcome in this year and followed up with our Photo Party. (You are most welcome to still participate). We continue this theme in our Poetry Party this month. What qualities or practices does your Word for the Year ask you to invite in as we continue to welcome in the new year?
Feel free to take your poem in any direction and then post the invitation on your blog (if you have one), Facebook, or Twitter, and encourage others to come join the party!
You can post your poem either in the comment section below*or you can join our Holy Disorder of Dancing Monks Facebook group (with more than 2700 members!) and post there.
*Note: If this is your first time posting, or includes a link, your comment will need to be moderated before it appears. This is to prevent spam and should be approved within 24 hours.

Beautiful, Alicia!
My Word is two part Yield/Receive
Yield
Y-yes
I-invite
E-evolve
L-live
D-dance
I will say Yes to inviting all that evolves in my life and Dance…one day at a time !!
(I’m still working on Receive)
This makes me say…YES!

Your poem is the perfect definition of your word, Sara!
Serving woman at Simon’s house (Luke 7:36-50)
As I entered,
Carrying the feast
I could not share
Fragrance greeted me;
Smell before sight
Gentle invasion
Of my senses
Pervading soul
As much as body.
And then I saw her
Come from the street –
In every sense –
Privilege of paupers
To share the leftovers.
But that was not
Why she had come.
Knelt at his feet
Tears streaming
Down her face
Etched with her suffering
Eyes reflecting pain
The men around her
Could never understand
But piercing my heart
With its intensity.
And then I saw
What she had brought
Every penny she owned –
And earned at such a price –
Future hopes and dreams
Poured out in love
To this mysterious stranger.
And so at first I marvelled
At such a risky step
Until at last
I saw the love reflected
In His gaze
And finally
I understood.
About a woman who was there to give a welcome…but saw the welcome of Jesus
Beautiful.
So rich, Jeannie, with images, with feelings, with love.
TREASURE
Trust and
Receive.
Embrace and
Accept.
Seek
under
rocks
expecting…. (treasure)
“under rocks expecting…(treasure)”– makes me think of a scavenger hunt, Vicki! After all that’s what life is about.
I was verbose in my choice of word(s) for the year! I chose Truth, Being and Courage. Inspired by Melissa Layer’s great post, using my words, plus the idea of Hospitality, I came up with:
T = Truthful
R = Respectful
U = Understanding
T = Trusting
H = Heart-full
B = Blessing
E = Encouraging
I = Inviting
N = Non-judgmental
G = Generous
C = Compassionate
O = Open
U = Unreserved
R = Receptive
A = Affirming
G = Gracious
E = Embracing
Now perhaps I might live towards some of those qualities!
I know you will, Anneclaire!
G Greet
E every
N numinous
T tune
L lightly,
E entirely,
Whether it come at
N night,
E evening,
S sunset, or
S sunrise.
I love your word, Karen. And the poem is marvelous!
My word is REVEAL. I particularly like the part of the dictionary definition that says “to communicate that which could not be discovered without divine instruction.”
R – “Revealing new things”
E – Each moment
V – Veils no longer veils
E – Emerging
A – Always remembering
L – Love guides, love holds me
I should spend more time with a dictionary! “V-Veils no longer veils” is my favorite part. Thank you, Cindy.
