Instead of selecting an image this month, we ask you to consider your Word for the Year as your poetry muse. We began this month with a Community Visio Divina practice with an image of a threshold and the theme of hospitality, asking what you will welcome in this year and followed up with our Photo Party. (You are most welcome to still participate). We continue this theme in our Poetry Party this month. What qualities or practices does your Word for the Year ask you to invite in as we continue to welcome in the new year?
Feel free to take your poem in any direction and then post the invitation on your blog (if you have one), Facebook, or Twitter, and encourage others to come join the party!
You can post your poem either in the comment section below*or you can join our Holy Disorder of Dancing Monks Facebook group (with more than 2700 members!) and post there.
*Note: If this is your first time posting, or includes a link, your comment will need to be moderated before it appears. This is to prevent spam and should be approved within 24 hours.

My word for the year is “Enough”. In lowering my eyes, in a 10-minutes silence today, I noticed this mandala. Until that moment, it had been merely a crocheted tablecloth!
E -Expect everyday the
N- Nurturing
O- Outpouring of
U- Unknowable
G- God-ness.
H – Hallowed be!
Wow, it’s beautiful, Cynthia. God’s surprises are all around us.
I
need almost
nothing,
only what’s already given:
connection with
everything that is, or could be, to
notice life’s and my own sweet talent for
color, shamelessly offered,
effortless in extravagance. And sassy.
I love your last line! I could use a little more “sassy” in my life. Thank you, Susan!
My word: Surrender
Surrender
Upwards
Release
Reflect
Enfold
Nourishing
Devine
Energy
Restored
I think you’ve captured the meaning of “surrender” beautifully, Angie.
come home little one
rest in heart ~ truth ~ love ~ caring
breathing your self free
This poem makes me want to sigh…or breath deeply, JoAnn.
I wrote this poem almost a year ago, but when I thought about hospitality it came to my mind. My one word is “intentional” and I think the last stanza demonstrates being intentional.
The Table Is Set
The table is set with
a pure white cloth.
A vase of flowers
will set the tone.
But I am all alone.
Utensils are rolled
in napkins of white.
Hidden is the feast
Prepared for all from
greatest to the least.
Where is everyone?
What do they expect?
Everything is here
to set the tone.
But I am still alone.
I will just go out
invite all I find.
They will get the food.
They set the tone.
And I am not alone.
It just shows you that all our words are related to some extent. The word “intentional” was brewing for you long ago! Thank you, Gayl!
It’s a little bit of a double-edged sword, this picking a word thing. Your poem captures that beautifully…so much courage and hope. Thank you!
Welcome, that’s my word for this year.
So today I welcome you sister
With all your oddities,
Your stinging words
That can cut deep into my soul
Creating ripples of pain.
Still I want to welcome you sister
I can see your wounds
Through your wounding words.
I shall bear the pain you inflict
For your sake,
For your healing.
Your healing shall heal me too.
So come in,
You are welcome.
Precious art thou Peter,
and precious is all
that is, was, and shall
be.
May this foggy morn
seep into your marrow
like a rich wine
on the precious
pink tongue
of tomorrow.
And may your eyes
gleam with the love
given and received
all your days,
like a bead of dew
on the rose petal
or a kiss on the
round cheek
of the friend.
What lusciousness, Peter. It reminds me of Hafiz, especially “the friend”!
Acceptance, my word
Hospitality challenges
Lord, open my heart.
So simple, Jan…but it’s not easy. I applaud you for taking on this word, as God does. You will be blessed!
She Welcomes
She stands at the door
Opening the portal with
a smile that says, “Welcome!”
“Come in, fellow mystic” says she.
“Share the stories!
Break the bread!
Sip the wine!
Pass the cake!
Savor the coffee!
Feel the energy!
Bask in the love!
Learn! Teach!
Feed and be fed!
See! Feel!
Be joined,
be in union through Spirit
that abides and guides.”

Wonderful, Trudy! I can feel your joy and exuberance coming through your poem. It was the first thing I read this morning, and I will remember it all day!
