Share your Word for 2015
In ancient times, wise men and women fled out into the desert to find a place where they could be fully present to God and to their own inner struggles at work within them. The desert became a place to enter into the refiner’s fire and be stripped down to one’s holy essence. The desert was a threshold place where you emerged different than when you entered.
Many people followed these ammas and abbas, seeking their wisdom and guidance for a meaningful life. One tradition was to ask for a word – this word or phrase would be something on which to ponder for many days, weeks, months, sometimes a whole lifetime. This practice is connected to lectio divina, where we approach the sacred texts with the same request – “give me a word” we ask – something to nourish me, challenge me, a word I can wrestle with and grow into. The word which chooses us has the potential to transform us.
- What is your word for the year ahead? A word which contains within it a seed of invitation to cross a new threshold in your life?

My one word is “intentional.” Here are some of my reasons for choosing this word: My everyday tasks will be easier to accomplish.
I will find time to read and meditate on Scripture and have a definite time of prayer each day for myself and to intercede for others.
I will be more disciplined and be able to complete things rather than jump from one thing to another feeling frazzled.
I can actually be more relaxed having time to do the little things that encourage and bless and make me happy.
The word seemed to keep coming back to me and I would see it in different places in my reading. I think it’s a good one for this year.
Receive
‘Delight!’ Open up to joy; experience wonder; delight in all things.
“FUN” is my word. It is attached to so many other words. For me, “Fun” is an experience as well as an outcome. Like part of a New Year banner of words, “Fun” is attached to “Trust, Laugh, Dance, Joy, Faith, Hope, Lightness, Childlike Freedom, Wisdom, Peace and so many more.
For example. when I truly trust, let go, I am more free to fully experience living and enjoy all of life that is around me. I am not anxious about what may or may not be. I am in step with the best of dancers and having “fun.”
In this new year, I plan to work on my “dance steps” by, trusting more, playing more, holding daily concerns more lightly.
Effortless. Moving through my days with ease and calm, knowing all will be accomplished in its time.
My word is”fly”! I woke up several times singing to myself, “You can fly, you can fly!” and can’t seem to shake it, so after wishing to be drawn to other words, I’m convinced that this is my word for 2015. new horizons ahead.
My word is Creativity… I circled around a string of words all beginning with the letter c… courage, cultivate, clarity and commitment. Alas, after coming across Rollo May’s definition of creativity in his book The Courage to Create I knew creativity was the right choice. “Creativity is the process of bringing something new into being. Creativity requires passion and commitment. It brings to our awareness what was previously hidden and points to new life. The experience is one of heightened consciousness and ecstasy.”
Quiet.
Grace. Receiving, giving, sharing, seeing/hearing/feeling, asking, allowing grace.
My word is “Home”! Being at peace and nurture who I am – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and relationally
