Autumn  is a season of paradox that invites us to gather in the harvest, to name and celebrate the fruits of the seeds we planted months ago.

Program Description

This mini-retreat is part of our four part Deep Rest series exploring the energy of seasonal turning points and the gifts of deep rest. Register for one or all of the mini-retreats. See the retreats for Samhain, Winter Solstice, and Imbolc/Feast of Brigid.

We live in times when it often feels like everything is coming undone. The Celtic hinge points of Autumn Equinox, Samhain, the Winter Solstice, and Imbolc offer the wisdom of living into a rhythm that honors the importance of times of rest as essential to our personal and collective wellbeing.

Autumn is a time of transition, of the earth’s turning, with the balance of light and dark in the northern hemisphere tilting toward the dark season and the invitation to release the excess we carry and rest into growing Mystery. At the heart of autumn’s gifts are the twin energies of relinquishing and harvesting. It is a season of paradox that invites us to gather in the harvest, to name and celebrate the fruits of the seeds we planted months ago. At the same time we are invited to consider what we are called to release and surrender.

This season reminds us that the journey of relinquishing all we hold dear is also the journey of harvesting. Somehow these two come together year after year. In holding them in tension we are reminded that in our letting go we also find abundance.

In this retreat we will break open the invitations to harvest and release through music, poetry, teaching, reflection, and meditation.

We will turn on closed captioning during the live Zoom session (which you are able to turn off in your settings if you find distracting) as well as provide a video recording with closed captioning available and a text transcript of the session within 24 hours. You will be sent a notification when this is ready to view.

You have lifetime access to all online programs.

Your Guides for the Journey

Simon de Voil

Rev Simon de Voil

Reverend Simon Ruth de Voil is an ordained interfaith-interspiritual minister, sacred musician, spiritual counsellor, and chaplain. His sacred work—both musical and interpersonal—explores themes of the inner landscape of the soul, the enchantment of the natural world, and the healing power of spiritual practice. As a chaplain and counsellor, Simon helps individuals and groups connect sacred presence with everyday life. Simon was born in Scotland, but now makes his home in the mountains of Vermont. He’s delighted to be called a stay at home monk and a “trans grandpa” to queer and trans youth. Visit Simon’s website here>>

Cassidhe Hart

Cassidhe Hart, MDiv

Cassidhe Hart, MDiv., wrote her first poem as a toddler with her mother’s help, dictating words onto a scrap of construction paper. She’s been writing ever since. As a poet and liturgist, she writes at the intersection of faith, ecology, community, and ritual to explore the ways we tell stories about our inner and outer worlds. She comes from a long line of settler-colonists and is committed to listening to systematically oppressed voices and to growing an anti-racist, decolonizing ethic in all her work. She has been commissioned to write prayers, liturgies, and songs for various worship and retreat contexts. In all her writing and facilitating, she seeks to cultivate a tender and radical attention to God’s presence among us. Her list of favorite things includes sunlight through tree leaves, children’s novels, jasmine tea, and her nephew’s drawings of rainbow narwhals. You can visit her website here: CassidheHart.wordpress.com
