A late play Christine. I've been walking and living with the image all week. Thank you!

light
shines
in dark places
Justice
Healing
Joy
overcome
war
greed
self-interest

in me
in every place

please put away the snuffer and nurture the flame

Enter: the Light
Illumination, is a choice.
The Light comes in,
through the open door;
flung wide by a heart
ready for blinding, painful
becoming. Mary sat,
under an olive tree,
lifted her chin, bravely:
"be it unto me..."
and became: Theotokos,
a Bodhisattva for
the children
God was calling:
to open.
The Buddha, sitting
under his Bodhi tree
felt the universe
wake up, and smiled
a wide, deep, endless
smile: midwifing the world.
They sat together,
bare foot and young,
hearts open. Singing
a lullaby to suns
born in their laps,
and playing with tops
made of stars.
Listen, listen, creation
whispers: wake up,
take up the Light
and bear the sweet,
burning, theos
within your heart.

Look to the light.
Let it lead you
through the darkness.

Lean towards the light
like the trees on
the crumbling hillside.

Watch for the sunrise.
Let it soak into your spirit,
crimson and gold.

Peter was told.
Keep your eyes on the light
and you can walk on water.

Mohandas

Red sky at night
must mean that
I left my rose-colored
glasses on again.

Red sky in morning
burns my eyes.
Close the blinds
and let me sleep
some more.

But then, I'm
awakened
by a voice:
You must be
the light
you want to see
in the world.

Old man
you knew a few
things about light.
Darkness
still reigns
in the country
you loved.
Show us how
to banish it
forever.

Just the right moment
when all is still
and all is at rest
there! I see it!

The way across...
the way through...
the path beyond
reflected in my heart.

It's known as reality -
a place to bring vision
and joy and peace and light
where there is blindness
and anger and brokenness and darkness.

More than ever,
as You shine within my heart
I know I am made
to spread that Light.

- Deb Vaughn
Advent 2008

If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
even the darkness will not be dark to You;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to You.
Psalm 139:11-12

Luminous

Your arrivals and departures
in luminosity
of searing beauty
that rent water
between firmaments
leave me dripping
Your light when I close my eyes.

We yearn for the light
We ache to hear, to see, to respond
Confused, lonely we wrap ourselves in silence, listening, praying, being
Warmed by the cover, encouraged by a spark, we throw off the shroud and pursue the fire

Colors of dusk
give passion to our journeys,
the night travelers--
soon your light will glow through
this window instead of my dreams.
