Abbey Updates

Above is my snazzy new banner (created in Microsoft Publisher) for my new Etsy store, I’d love to know what you think of it! Drop me a note and let me know and also please respond to my question at the end of this post.
I have just about completed my new set of Prayer Cards for Autumn! Fall is a time of letting go to make space for what is new, an invitation to release and surrender into different ways of being. Just like my Blossoming Prayer Cards, this is a set of 10 of my own images. On the reverse, each card has a word that expresses one of the energies of autumn (such as Changing, Harvesting, Falling) along with a brief reflection with a question for meditation. They are laminated for durability and each card is 2.25 x 3.5 inches, so they slip into a wallet or journal and make great small gifts.
Each set of 10 is $16 –consider ordering some along with my journal Praying With the Elements for a celebration of the gifts of the elements and seasons together. As always, you can place an order by visiting my Etsy store or emailing me directly at Christine AT AbbeyoftheArts DOT com and I will either send you a Paypal invoice for credit card payment or you can send me a check.

Operators are, um, ”standing by” to take your order:

I am grateful for the many of you who have placed orders already for Praying With the Elements. And I am so delighted to receive your emails and read what you think. Your feedback has been so encouraging! See what Eveline at Ebenezer’s Scribe has to say and lucy at Diamonds in the Sky with Lucy has been finding inspiration in its pages here and here. If you give a mini-review on your blog or post some words you found fruitful, please let me know.
My next Invitation to Poetry will be this coming Monday, September 24th. I am planning on offering this every other Monday with a little giveaway each time to one lucky participant.
Any ideas or energy to do a different kind of art invitation the alternate Mondays? Perhaps again with a theme to inspire you to create something visually? Or would you like to see the poetry invitation each week? Let me know in the comments or send me an email to Christine AT AbbeyoftheArts DOT com if this is something that would interest you.

I don’t think Tune is standing by to take our orders at all, I think she’s about to record a doggy podcast!
Personally, I think poetry invitations every Monday might be too much, it might become regimented rather than allowing everything to sink in and just be. But that’s just my view.
But I’m not sure I have an alternative to put forward.

PS: I forgot the most important bit - the new prayer cards look wonderful!

Much as I love them, I agree that doing the poetry invitation every week might lessen its interest. I have one other suggestion that might be used from time to time. You might post a poem you like, then ask people to start their own poem with one phrase or line from the poem you posted. When we read poetry, there is often one part that will resonate with us more deeply… and it is fun to use that as a take-off point. I would like to see the many paths that one poem might take us. The poem you posted by Naomi Shihab Nye recently jumped out of the page at me.

Thanks Tess, the doggy podcast comment made me smile.
I agree with you both, I do think the poetry every week might be too much. I like the idea of having time to sink in and I love your idea Pam of using a line of another poem to begin a new poem. I have done that in workshops before, so could work very nicely online.

What about something visual? Instead of offering an image for us to respond to with words, what about offering a theme for us to respond to with some kind of artwork: collage, photo, painting, drawing, doodle, mudpie…whatever works.
I’ve been thinking (since I enjoyed the Poetry Invitations so much) that it’s a good think for me to flex my creative muscles from time to time…but I need some outside stimulus. Thanks for the outlet, and the exercise!

Thanks Anne, I will ponder this possibility. Glad you are finding the poetry invitation creatively inspiring!
